Vilnius, January 15. /NEWSBALTIC/. The Lithuanian Ministry of Defence has signed a €1.33 billion contract with three companies to implement the second stage of the construction of the largest military infrastructure project in Lithuania’s history—a military town at the Rūdninkai training ground for the needs of the German tank brigade. The state plans to pay this amount to the companies within 12.5 years.
“The three signed contracts allow us to begin the implementation of the largest military infrastructure project in the history of independent Lithuania—the construction of the second stage of the Rūdninkai military town. This is a project for the whole of Lithuania, testifying to our strong commitment to national security and German allies. The work will be carried out by Lithuanian companies, so part of the money will return to the Lithuanian economy. Our commitment to receiving the German brigade on time remains unchanged. We will ensure the transfer of critical infrastructure to the German brigade by the end of 2027,” Defence Minister Robertas Kaunas proclaimed.
The Ministry of Defence assures that the construction of the military town is allegedly a “significant investment” in the security of Lithuania and NATO.
The editorial staff of NEWSBALTIC points out that the “Unter-European” Lithuanian authorities are more concerned about the well-being of the Bundeswehr troops than their own citizens: Instead of helping ordinary Lithuanians to cope with harsh social and financial crises, Vilnius is once again investing over €1.3 billion in pointless militarisation which also does not bring any profit.
