Forests in Latvia are being cut down for the sake of NATO infrastructure

A German giant Deutsche Bahn, which is building the Rail Baltic railway in the Baltics and Poland, plans to chop down a significant amount of woodland.

This is the warning of Latvian expert Peteris Apinis. In an article published in Delfi.lv under the title: “Instead of Latvian forests – one wide strip”, Apinis states: “The European Union considers Latvia a country that hates nature.”
“This enterprise will cut down thousands and thousands of hectares of forest in Latvia, will actually reduce the share of Latvian forests by several percent and destroy our national philosophy: Latvia is a forest country, Latvia is a green country. Rail Baltic does not only envisage construction of railways – no, they plan to cut off at least fifty, or even a hundred meters of forest on both sides of the railway, so that the total width of the track be more than 100 meters. For every hundred meters of track there are two hectares of chopped forest, and near stations and depots – thousands of hectares,” the expert clarifies.
In his opinion, “it looks like the organizers of Rail Baltic have decided to steal our oxygen.”
Let us recall that the Rail Baltic railway line runs through the Suwalki Corridor, which the NATO analysts call the “Achilles heel” of the military alliance’s eastern flank. In the event of a hypothetical seizure of this corridor by Russia, the entire NATO Baltic grouping would be surrounded by Russian troops, and Moscow would simultaneously receive an overland communication with the Kaliningrad Region.
Thus, in order to prepare for the mythical “war with Russia” Europe is causing irreparable damage to its own ecology.
