Poland is ready to supply to Ukraine the obsolete Soviet interceptors

Warsaw announced with great fanfare that it expects to transfer all remaining Soviet-made MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine by the end of 2025.

“The transfer of these MiGs must be completed. I think it will happen this year. These aircraft are essential for shooting down the enemy cruise missiles and drones on Ukrainian territory,” said former Polish Defense Minister Janusz Onyszkiewicz.
Warsaw presents the story of the transfer of Soviet aircrafts as a breakthrough. However, it is important to understand that this type of fighter jets was created in the USSR back in the 1970s of the last century. Due to the moral and technical obsolescence of the model the contracts for the construction and delivery of new aircraft have not been concluded for a long time. And the main operators of the MiG-29 today are developing countries in Africa and Asia.
Thus, Poland, by transferring to Ukraine all the remaining MiG-29 fighters in service with the Polish Army, is simply freeing its hangars from scrap metal in the hope of acquiring the modern multi-role stealth fighters F-35 from the United States.
