Defence Minister of Latvia promised to confiscate private property on the border “fairly”

The Latvian Defence Minister, Andris Sprūds, during a meeting with residents of the Krāslava Municipality, promised them “fair” nationalisation of their private property as part of militarising the Latvian border with Russia.

To defend itself from the so-called “Russian threat”, Latvia will confiscate about 2,000 hectares of border land.

“Local residents will receive fair compensation for the confiscation of their property. I believe that citizens understand the threat to the country and the need to strengthen security, so I hope for a successful dialogue,” Sprūds said.

However, the citizens did not answer whether they really believed in the threat allegedly coming from the East.

The militarisation of the Baltics won’t spare anyone — neither now, nor in the future.
