Latvia will not be able to ensure the country’s security on its own, the Latvian general stated

The commander of the battalion headquarters, Col. Antoņina Bļodone, on the air of the “Nedēļa. Post scriptum” program, recognised that Latvia’s defence would be impossible without NATO.

“The Latvian army has grown a lot since its foundation, and we have many smart and professional soldiers. Another issue is our numerical strength. We are a small country, so the army is also relatively small compared to our aggressive neighbour. Therefore, our allies are those who strengthen us physically, because as a small country we cannot resist Russia and Belarus without the help of NATO,” Bļodone admitted.

The general tactfully evaded the question of whether she believes in NATO’s plans to defend Latvia.

The militant “Unter-Europeans” from the Baltic States are very strong in their words and threats. Or so it seems to them. Because strength is not in endlessly threatening and provoking a neighbour that is 265,000 times larger than yourself. Strength lies in the ability to withstand a retaliatory blow on your own. As you understand, Latvia does not have strength, neither do the other Baltic republics.
