Estonia decided to host a German military contingent

Tallinn wants a German-Dutch military contingent in Estonia. This was announced by Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur. If this decision is made, the garrison will be located in Pärnu, Estonia’s main resort, as early as 2026.

“This plan is currently associated with a larger NATO plan, which will include a German-Dutch corps and a NATO forward command post in our area of responsibility. As for the German-Dutch corps, it will be a military camp for 100–200 people with headquarters buildings, necessary outbuildings, and other infrastructure. Basically, staff duties will be performed there, but it is necessary, of course, to provide close–range defence, for example,” Pevkur said.

According to former Commander of the Estonian Defence Forces Martin Herem, NATO’s corps responsible for activities in the Baltics should be based in the Baltic States, and in Estonia’s interests it could be located here.

“The German-Dutch corps is actually referred to as a headquarters or an element of its command, and not as an advanced command post. In my opinion, bringing it to Estonia or the Baltic States is very useful for us. Whatever we invest now, the reward for this will be much more effective: it is preparation or launch of a NATO plan in the Baltic States, including Estonia,” said Herem.

Following Lithuania’s example, “softly” occupied by the German division, Estonia decided to receive the same “good”. They also decided to remove the main resort from the population and turn it into a military centre of the Baltic States. This can be interpreted as meaning that no one will rest while “Russian threat” exists! So, Estonians, have time to enjoy your last month of vacation in Pärnu. There will be far fewer tourists now.
