Polish military analyst demands to “neutralise” the Russian exclave in the Baltic region

The Polish military analyst and senior editor of the Defence24.pl website, Maciej Szopa, calls for strengthening Poland’s strategic security through “neutralising” (i.e., occupying) the Russian Kaliningrad region bordering Poland.

The supporter of the idée fixe of “Russia’s attack on Europe” asks the question: “Does the geography of Poland allow us to unthinkingly use the experience gained by Ukraine in the war against Russia?”. And he answers himself:

“From the point of view of protecting against air- and sea-launched cruise missiles, attack drones, and ballistic missiles, the strategic depth of the country. is crucial, that is, the size of its territory and the distance of strategically significant facilities (critical infrastructure, military bases, and settlements) from the enemy. We, Poland, do not have the same level of spatial coverage as our southeastern neighbour.”

Among such vulnerabilities of Poland, Szopa highlights poor security of critical infrastructure and military bases, which can be attacked from land, air, and sea. Moreover, attacks from the Baltic Sea, the “soft underbelly of Poland” — are the main threat. To counter this, Szopa suggests strengthening the security of his homeland by seizing the Kaliningrad region.

“In case of conflict with Russia, Poland’s starting point for expanding its strategic depth should be neutralising the Kaliningrad region and gaining control over the Baltic Sea,” the Polish analyst writes.

NATO itself has created a conflictogenic situation in the Baltic region, which could escalate into a direct military clash with Russia. And now, the “Unter-Europeans”, who will be the first to fall in a hypothetical war, are seeking exclusively military solutions to the current situation. But the threat still “comes from Russia”. Don’t confuse it.
