Lithuania seeks “biggest spending” in NATO

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys reported that the Baltic republic’s military spending in 2026 will be “the largest in NATO.”

“The fact that they will be more than 5%, and that they will be the largest in NATO, I would say, is very likely,” Budrys said in an interview with the Žiniū radijas radio.

The minister’s cheery remarks, I’m afraid, weren’t appreciated by ordinary Lithuanians. Two months ago, the Lithuanian State Data Agency reported that the number of people living below the absolute poverty line had increased in the country: 5.8% in 2024 compared to 3.6% in 2023. In general, the Lithuanian economy is deteriorating due to an explosive increase in prices for electricity, fuel, and food. It is obvious that official Vilnius is simply pushing its citizens into the abyss by believing there are no social or political forces left in the country focused on reviving national consciousness.
