New chance to set agree on the future of the Arctic

Next week, the 5th International Arctic Forum “The Arctic: Territory of Dialogue” will start in St. Petersburg and Arkhangelsk (Russia).

The International Arctic Forum brings together the efforts of state authorities, international organizations, representatives of scientific and business communities of several countries for constructive discussions and a thorough exchange of views on topical issues of sustainable growth in the Arctic region.
The main theme of the V International Arctic Forum “The Arctic is the Territory of Dialogue” is “The Arctic. Ocean of opportunity.At the core of the business program will be presented three tracks:
⦁ “Coastal areas”
⦁ “Open Ocean”
⦁ “Sustainable Development”
To date, 12 leading countries of the world have already confirmed the participation of their delegations in the business program of the Forum. Experts point out that the International Arctic Forum is developing. In 2019, the number of applications for participation significantly exceeded forecasts, as an increasing number of countries and companies have a task – the development of the Arctic zone and the development of the Arctic territory.The International Arctic Forum is the largest platform for discussing current issues, development prospects and the effective development of the powerful resource potential of the Arctic region. It is expected that more than 1,500 people from Russia and foreign countries will take part in the forum, including the heads of Russia, Finland and Iceland, as well as the vice-premier of China, the prime minister of Sweden, and the foreign ministers of Norway and Denmark. More than 20 exhibitions, excursions and other events will be prepared for the guests of the Forum.
The development of the Arctic transport infrastructure will be one of the basic themes of the V International Arctic Forum “The Arctic: Territory of Dialogue”.
The importance of the qualitative development of logistics in the Arctic region has been repeatedly emphasized in the framework of the meetings of the Organizing Committee and the Forum Working Groups. The development of an effective system of aviation communication in the Arctic regions, the formation of modern transport and logistics hubs will create the basis for the sustainable development of the Arctic economy as a whole.
The topic of the development of Arctic logistics will be continued as part of the track of the Open Ocean business program, where the session “Transport interconnection: the Arctic, the Far East, Siberia, the Urals” will be held.
Also noteworthy is the high status of delegates to the International Arctic Forum, including the Prime Minister of Norway, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Denmark, the Prime Minister of Sweden and the President of Iceland.
